2017 Francine Porad Haiku Award

Haiku Northwest is a very active group of poets based in the Seattle area of Washington State, USA. The group began in 1988 under the leadership of the celebrated haiku poet, Francine Porad. Each year, Haiku Northwest sponsors the Francine Porad Haiku Award.

The Porad Award is open to entries from around the world, and this year First Place was awarded to paul m. from Rhode Island, with second place going to Julie Warther from Ohio and Carole MacRury from Washington State in Third Place. You can read their winning poems and see the comments of Canadian judge, Terry Ann Carter, on the Haiku Northwest website.

I was pleased to have one of my haiku recognised with an Honourable Mention in this year’s Award:

ragged edge
the cabbage moth’s wing
and the cabbage

So, if you write haiku, you might like to mark the Francine Porad Award in your diary and submit some entries in next year’s competition. Good Luck!
