The final Brush With Poetry for the year will be held on Sunday 24 November 2019. In addition to the usual open mic readings, Laurie McDonald will appear as feature poet for the afternoon.
Laurie writes and performs Australian ‘bush’ poetry and other poems capturing his quirky observations from life. Laurie describes most of his material as poetry for the stage rather than for the page. He performs regularly and has won Reciter of the Year at the National Folk Festival in Canberra and the Tuckerbox Reciters Award in Gundagai.
Here’s an extract from Laurie’s poem titled Wind In My Hair:
Don’t you long for the days when a car was a car?
To see the glint of the sun off a chrome bumper bar
White wall tyres on wire spoked wheels
And two-tone duco over fair dinkum steel.
. . . . . .
But if you think it’ll help the way that you feel
Go ahead. Buy yourself some flash new abominabile
And when you’re cooped up in there with that half vacant stare
That’ll be me cruising by with the wind in my hair.
Brush With Poetry will get under way at 2:00pm, so please arrive by 1:30pm so we can start on time. Robyn Sykes and myself will be MCs for the afternoon. The venue is the Café on Queen at 15 Queen Street Binalong, New South Wales. Coffee, tea, cake and light lunches are available and you are welcome to bring your own wine or beer. Entry to Brush With Poetry is free though small donations are welcome.
Laurie McDonald’s performances are always great fun, so join us in Binalong on 24 November.
